38 Weeks

The countdown is officially on!  We have another appointment today, so it'll be fun to see if anything has progressed or if we're still a ways away from the big day.

Your baby might just scratch herself in the womb as the fingernails have grown over the fingertips now. Resist painting them hot pink when she arrives.  Baby's lungs continue to mature and her brain and nerve function are working better every day. The latter two will continue to mature until Junior is a teenager, at which point she'll know it all (or at least she'll think she does).  Your baby weighs about 6½ pounds and is around 19 or 20 inches long—as long as a duffle bag (in case you needed an excuse to go shopping for a new bag for your labor gear).

37 Weeks

This is my favorite week so far based on this excerpt:

Your baby is officially baked this week!  That means you could literally give birth at any given moment.  A terrifying, exciting and overwhelming concept, all rolled into one.  Your partner is undoubtedly having the same emotional roller-coaster ride, so be sure to share your feelings and enjoy these last weeks (days?! hours?!) together.  Huge news this week: You're carrying a full-term baby! If you were to go into labor today, all systems would be a go.  Woohoo!  Even though you can't wait for the little bambino to quite literally rear her head, keep in mind that your bun benefits from every day in the oven.  Other ticker-tape-worthy developments:

Baby's growth slows down dramatically this week, which is great news for your birth canal. Her bones are still soft and pliable and will solidify after she's born. More great news for your birth canal.

So if she's all cooked and ready to go, what the heck is she still doing in there?!  She's busy practicing for "life on the outside," working on her breathing, sucking, sleeping, gazing and peeing abilities.  The only thing she can't practice yet is her ability to scream at the top of her lungs when she's hungry—but she'll do plenty of that in a few weeks.

At this point babies vary in size, but the average length is between 19 and 20 inches and most babies weigh approximately 6 pounds. About the size of an average largemouth bass caught in Minnesota by your cousin Earl.

36 Weeks

We are 36 weeks along and are about a month away from meeting our little one!  I have been MAJORLY nesting and the nursery is just about done!  Now if I can just get some sleep before she gets here...

She is now around 18½ inches long and nearly 6 pounds—just about as big as a breadbox!  Baby’s development is nearly complete at this stage and it can be termed as full term baby on completion of 36th week. The baby will now move and position itself for birth.  At our last two appointments, she has had her head down, so that is good news.

35 Weeks

We had our housewarming party on Saturday.  A lot of great friends came and saw the new home and relaxed with some food and a great bartender!  We have changed doctors and are very happy with the new doctor.  He appreciates our sense of humor which can sometimes be very hard to do!

Your baby is now about 5½ pounds and over 18 inches long—about the size of one of those price-club sheet cakes.  As Patrick Swayze put it, "Nobody puts baby in a corner!" Doubly true for your little tenant. Your baby has pretty much taken over your entire torso by now. Over the past few months, she's squished and mushed all of your organs out of the way. Any day now, she'll make a final move and shove your heart up and to the left to make more room for herself. (See, she's got your heart in her hands already.)

34 Weeks

This week, your baby measures about 17¾ inches, as almost as long as an American Girl Doll (!) and weighs around 5 and a half pounds, as heavy as a bag of sugar!  The baby’s body begins to fill up with layers of fat which will help the baby in regulating body temperature and adjusting with the atmosphere outside the mother’s womb.  Most of the baby’s organs are mature except for the lungs as they keep practicing breathing and taking in the amniotic liquid while breathing leading to bouts of hiccups from time to time.  The hair on the head is growing fast and the baby is learning to blink its eyes.  The baby shows strong reactions to familiar voices at this stage.

We had an ultrasound on Friday with our new doctor and we saw her lungs moving up and down.  He said this is a sign of a healthy baby!  He estimates that she weighs around 5 pounds, 3 ounces!  Things are looking great!  We had a baby shower yesterday that was really nice.  Our little girl is already spoiled by family and friends!

33 Weeks

Things are coming along well!  It's been cooling down, so my feet aren't as swollen.  Our house is looking more and more like a home every day.  It'll be nice when all the boxes are gone!

Gaining about half a pound (0.23 kg) each week, your baby probably weights over 4 pounds (2 kg) and measures over 19 inches (48 cm) long—what a little bundle of love! Her knees will curl up towards her tiny chest as she begins to assume the classic "fetal" position. Because there is a little less room to move around in, your baby is a bit quieter now, storing up energy and getting ready for her grand entrance.

32 Weeks

Your baby measures about 18.9 inches (48cm) long from head to toe and weighs almost 4 pounds (1.8kg). She fills almost all the space in your uterus now, either lying with the head up or sometimes still with enough room to do somersaults. A layer of fat is forming underneath the thin, wrinkly skin. Baby's practicing opening her eyes and breathing.

We are all moved into our new house!  Now we have to unpack all the boxes and organize everything!

Monday, September 8, 2008

31 Weeks

Your baby measures about 18 inches (46cm) long from head to toe and weighs about 3.5 pounds (1.6kg). Rather than hearing vibrations, baby's nerve endings in his ears are connected now so that he can hear distinct sounds, like familiar voices and music.

She is still moving all the time which is fun!  Andy feels her kicking, punching and doing somersaults in my ever-growing belly!

One of my countdowns says 64 days left!  AHHHHH!  So exciting!  The nursery is being painted today and the whole house should be ready for us to move in on Friday!

30 Weeks

Do we really only have 10 weeks to go?!?!?!?!?

We are supposed to get keys to our new house today or Wednesday, so this week is super exciting for us!

When your baby is awake, her eyes are now wide open and she's whittling away the hours looking around, checking out her rather dark, limited environs.

Your baby hasn't gained much weight or height this week, as most of her energy's been channeled to the brain. She weighs about 3 pounds and is approximately 15.5 inches long, about the size of a Yorkie terrier. Of course your baby is less hairy and way cuter!

29 Weeks

I can't believe how time is flying by!  We are scheduled to close on our house on Friday, so that is exciting!

This week your baby is a little over 15 inches long—about the length of a loaf of bread—and weighs about 3 pounds, as much as a Macbook Air laptop.

28 Weeks

We are now officially in our third trimester!!!  (Sources vary about when each trimester starts)

During this week, your baby will grow another one-half inch in size. Your babe is downright chubby compared to a few weeks ago. She is about 15 inches long, about the length of an amusement park cinnamon-sugar-coated churro (yum!), and weighs 2 to 3 pounds.

When you are 28 weeks pregnant, your baby is now sleeping and waking at normal intervals. Generally, your activity throughout the day will lull him or her to sleep, and being sedentary at night gives him or her a chance to wake up and be active!  (She LOVES to dance around when I'm trying to go to sleep at night!!!)

Other fetal development that is occurring around week 28 of pregnancy includes the following:
Brain tissue continues to develop
The folds and grooves of your baby's brain continue to develop and expand
The baby begins to dream
The eyes open and close
Eyebrows and eyelashes are present
Your baby has about 2 to 3 percent body fat, and his or her muscle tone is increasing
Although lungs are still immature, they are capable of sustaining life in the event of a premature birth (with some medical help).

27 Weeks

We are now 27 weeks pregnant!  Time is flying by and we are in escrow on our first house!

We went to Coronado's dog beach yesterday with Janelle and Priscilla and my belly got a bit too much sun!

Baby's lungs and immune system are maturing this week as baby prepares for her grand entrance. If she were born today she would have an 85 percent chance of surviving as her lungs are capable of breathing air (with medical assistance, of course).

Baby's done a lot of growing over the past few months. Her length has more than doubled in the past 15 weeks! And that's not the only thing growing—baby's brain tissue and neurons are all developing at a rapid pace. Her brain waves are now firing away just like those of a newborn baby.

Your baby now weighs in at approximately 14½ inches and just over 2 pounds.

26 Weeks

Here's what is going on this week:

As hearing continues to develop, your baby will start to recognize your voice. One hint that your karaoke rendition of "Baby Got Back" is not the best would be when the baby starts banging on your gut. Your bambina will also start to recognize your partner's voice. He may feel silly talking to your stomach, but assure him that somebody other than you is definitely listening. Research has shown that newborns actually recognize familiar sounds after birth. Proof that your baby has been paying attention all along.

Break out the sparkling apple juice—baby has now completed two-thirds of her stay in Hotel Womb. Your baby is about 1 2/3 pounds and is 14 inches long head-to-heel, or about the length of a burp cloth (otherwise known as your primary wardrobe accessory for the next several months).

Weeks 7 - 9 Photos!

Here are the first belly photos!!!!!
Week 7 (3/24/08)
Week 8 (3/31/08)
Week 9 (4/7/08)

First post...

We are 9 weeks and 2 days pregnant today!  Things are going well and there are some noticeable changes in our waistlines.  That's right... OUR waistlines!  Both of us have put on a few pounds since we found out we're pregnant.

I plan to update this blog each week with a new belly picture and notes about what is going on with us.

We met with a dog trainer last night and it was a total success!  The trainer works for the Navy and trains dolphins and sea lions, so he's super talented with the animals!  Hopefully his words of wisdom will pay off and we'll have a wonderfully calm dog in the next few weeks!
